Ecofarm in Transylvania, Romania

Learn about sustainability and permaculture in a small village deep in the mountains of Transylvania, Romania. The goal of Dupa Gard is to create a peaceful retreat, helping people reconnect with nature and themselves. By volunteering at Dupa Gard, young people learn about sustainability and permaculture, growing food and healthy living – they learn by helping us at the farm and by getting involved in the local life.

Our main aim right now is to bring the community closer together. We want to create “third spaces”, where the locals could meet and build a community spirit, which is now largely missing. The volunteers play a key role in helping us rebuild as they have the curiousity and will to learn and bring fresh perspectives.

Our work with the local community in Posaga has been running since 2012, when we started working with the elderly – helping them with some tasks, such as collecting herbs, baking bread, helping with hay, and collecting wood for the winter. Another main objective is to show sustainable approaches for life, which will help them implement appropriate improvements in their daily life (eg. composting, saving energy and water, reducing household waste, growing their own food) and become active in their local community, thereby
multiplying the effect of a positive change.
