ESC in Nicosia (Cyprus)

The Home for Cooperation (H4C) is a community center situated in the center of Nicosia, in the UN Buffer Zone, Ledra Palace crossing point. Opening its doors in 2011, it acts as a bridge-builder between separated communities, memories and visions through its physical presence and its peace building programs, benefiting from the transformative power of arts and culture.

Beyond constraints and dividing lines, it provides working spaces for NGO’s and embodies cooperation through different peace-building programs, like the Buffer Fringe Performing Arts Festival, United by Sound, cultural and educational walks and bike rides, and language classes.

The Home for Cooperation aims to facilitate and offer a space for initiatives that contribute to promoting communication and interaction between people from different ethnic, religious, or linguistic backgrounds at a local, regional, European, and international level; to inspire and promote creativity among local and international artists; to become a platform for cultural expression through diverse mediums and to offer its resources to support cultural and educational activities that promote interaction, dialogue and freedom of thinking and expression.

Nicosia, the capital of Cyprus, one of the oldest cities in our part of the world, is rich in history and culture, combining its historic past with the amenities of a modern city.
The heart of the city, within the 16th century Venetian Walls, has a number of interesting museums and art galleries, Byzantine churches and a number of medieval and neo-classical buildings while the narrow streets retain the romantic atmosphere of the past.
Nicosia remains as the only divided capital in Europe, with 3 crossing points which allows interaction across the divide. H4C is located in one of these crossings. This makes Nicosia the most intercultural city in Cyprus with interaction across the divide, being part of the daily life of its inhabitants.
