Asociación Socio-Cultural VerdeSur Alcalá is run by a group of professionals working in the field of youth who would like to create a social change in town of Alcala while focusing on the young people and involving the young people, teachers and educator to the mobility activities as well as the local socio-cultural activities through its partnerships and its offers.

The association is supported by the local municipality and it is based on the youth building of Alcala la Real where it has a very diverse environment with a great historical trajectory where it can bring too many opportunities for events and social activities for young people and local population. We cooperate with schools, employment agency, Caritas, Red Cross and local municipality to provide activities for the volunteers. The activities varies according to the interest of the volunteers and we expect volunteers to develop their own projects to increase the outreach of the organisation. Even though our main target group is the young people living in Alcala la Real aged between 15-30, we implement activities with the children and elderly as well. The volunteers will involve in the activities daily with the children, elderly population and the young people and they will as well as involve in the organisation of the international activities take place throughout the year within Erasmus+ Projects.

About Alcalá la Real

Alcalá la Real is situated 71 kilometres from the provincial capital, Jaén, and 53 kilometres from Granada. The town is located in the rural area of Spain with a population of 21.000
people. The town is considered as medium in Spain standarts, but there are two big towns which the volunteers can go and visit during their free-time (Granada and Jaen ) really easily. There are several opportunities in the town due to municipality’s activities concerning culture and the volunteers often engage in these activities through the cooperation’s that we have with the other NGOs and municipality. There are two big supermarkets ( Mercadona and Lidl ) where the volunteers can get their needs easily in walking distance to the office as well as the house that the volunteers’ stay.

Possible tasks

● Conversation assistant at the local institute (Alfonso XI) for the subjects of Physical Education,
IT and English. Collaborate in the development of the class in English, teaching vocabulary and
speaking skills.
● School support for children, help with their homework and games to develop other skills with
the Red Cross
● Cooperation and preparation in activities for retirees with the Red Cross
● Peer Coaching with the migrant children / young people
● Support in the dining room of the retirement center from Monday to Friday.
● Support in the local primary dining room (SAFA) from Monday to Friday.
● Helping out the activities of the association when it is needed ( youth exchanges, training
courses or local projects )
● Involving in Spanish classes provided in the local area
● Involving in English speaking clubs and engaging in the activities of Edificio Joven

Volunteer Profile

We are looking volunteer who are eager to work with children, young people, elderly and willing to
involve in the implementation of international projects focusing on art and youth work. We do not require any special skills though, we expect that the volunteer is willing to work with at least one of
the target groups that we have within the activities.

For long-term volunteering activities, we expect the volunteer to have at least adequate level of
English and if possible Spanish.

Food and Accommodation

The volunteers stay in a shared house in double rooms with shared bathrooms, kitchen, terrace and
co-living space. They have kitchen utilities to cook their own food and they are provided with 180 EUR to cover their food expenses.

The house is three floor building with 12 separate rooms and the volunteers will share the overall
space according to the availability of the rooms and how they see fit. Though, we cannot provide any
private accommodation (single rooms ) to any volunteers, so the rooms will be shared.

Working hours

Total working hours : 30 hours per week
The working hours are between 8:00 – 14:00 and 17:00 – 20:00.

Each volunteer have separate task schedule without not working more than 6 hours per day during the week days between the mentioned timeslot above. Unless there is an international activity or need, the volunteers do not work in weekends, if they do, they receive additional day off during the week days.

Days off : 2,5 day per month and weekends

Wat zijn de addertjes onder het gras?

Dit project (onderdeel van de European Solidarity Corps, ESC) wordt geheel gefinancierd vanuit het Erasmus+ programma van de Europese Unie. Dit programma is bedoeld om uitwisseling tussen Europese jongeren en hun culturen te stimuleren. Eastpackers is één van de Nederlandse organisaties die bemiddelt tussen Nederlandse jongeren en buitenlandse organisaties die vrijwilligers ontvangen. Onze werkzaamheden worden ook door de EU gefinancierd. Deelnemers betalen hier niets voor.
Er zijn wel een aantal voorwaarden verbonden aan deelname aan dit project. Je moet tussen de 18 en 30 jaar oud zijn, minimaal 6 en liefst 9 maanden beschikbaar zijn (voor andere projecten is dit soms anders) en gemotiveerd zijn om full-time vrijwilligerswerk te doen.

Hoe kan ik beoordelen of dit project iets voor me is?

Het is kenmerkend voor ESC projecten dat het werk en de werkomgeving soms anders uitvallen dan van te voren gedacht. Een flexibele instelling is noodzakelijk om van ESC de leerervaring te maken die het kan zijn. Wanneer je het moeilijk hebt, heimwee ervaart of onvoldoende uitdaging hebt, helpen wij je om de situatie te verbeteren. Je bent en blijft te allen tijden vrijwilliger. Wij kunnen je dus niet dwingen om tegen je zin te blijven. Bedenk wel dat je slechts één keer in je leven ESC kunt doen. Als je jouw project voortijdig beëindigt, kun je geen ander project gaan doen.

Wat krijg ik allemaal vergoed?

Alle reis,- en verblijfkosten (plus je eventuele visa) zijn inbegrepen. Daarnaast krijg je eten en drinken of een vergoeding om dit zelf te kopen. Daarnaast krijg je nog zakgeld die door Eastpackers maandelijks wordt overgemaakt. Verder krijg je een aanvullende zorgverzekering een online taal cursus voor EU landen en taallessen voor landen buiten de EU. Bovendien krijg je een trainingen aangeboden waar je leert het meeste uit je ESC te halen. Deze zijn in Nederland en in het land waar jouw gastorganisatie gevestigd is.

Hoe is de huisvesting geregeld?

Elke gastorganisatie regelt huisvesting op een andere manier. De meest gangbare vorm van huisvesting is dat meerdere ESC-vrijwilligers samen in een appartement worden gehuisvest. Vrijwilligers delen de keuken en badkamer en hebben elk een eigen slaapkamer. Er zijn echter ook landen en projecten waarbij twee vrijwilligers een kamer delen. Als je dit niet wilt, is het belangrijk om van te voren met de gastorganisatie goed door te spreken hoe de huisvesting is geregeld.

Ik ben vegetariër. Wordt er rekening gehouden met mijn eetwensen?
