ESC in Craiova (Roemenië)

The volunteer will participate in the design, planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of non-formal activities. The exact content and methods used for the achievement of the project objective are to be defined together with the volunteers during the weekly and monthly planning meeting. The volunteer shall be consulted on tasks assigned and will be given opportunities to provide direct input in establishing what he/she will do.  ACT will provide direct support(in terms of help planning, implementing, and making resources available) to the volunteers who wish to bring their own contributions to the project working methods, activities and tasks as long as it keeps everything within the bounds defined by the project objectives.

  be willing to work with youth.
• Active, open-minded, creative, innovative, responsible
  and motivated
• The volunteers of this project should, above all else, show
  willingness to learn and see their experience as a learning process.
• Basic level of English (being able to make herself/himself
  understood by the others – able to communicate).

Accommodation: ACT will host the volunteers in rented apartments in the city of Craiova. Each accommodation will assure good living conditions (private beds, equipped kitchen and bathroom, heating system, running cold/ hot water, Wi-Fi). Please note that you will share the bedroom (2 volunteers per room, separate single beds).

Financial aspects: International travel, local transport, accommodation and utility fees, monthly communication costs, costs related to activities are covered directly by ACT.

Monthly food allowance: 150 euro/month
Pocket money: 90 euro/month

Local transport will be covered by ACT, upon arrival you will receive info on how to use public transport, a map of the transit lines etc.

The volunteers receive physical Romanian language lessons 2 sessions per week for the first 5 months and 1 session per week for the rest of the project.

Working hours are flexible and adapted to the schedule of the target institutions. Usually you’ll spend 3-4 hours/day in with the youngsters and 1-2 hours/day for preparing the activities.

Each volunteer is entitled to 2 free days/week (typically weekends but in case that an activity requires work on the weekend the volunteer will be free in the next days) and 2 extra free days per month.

Craiova is the largest city in southwestern Romania. It has a long academic tradition and a wealth of important historical personalities including military governor Prince Mihai Viteazu (Michael the Brave), world-famous sculptor Constantin Brancusi and Petrache Poenaru (1799 – 1875), the inventor of the fountain pen. Craiova has also played an important role in the manufacturing of trains: the vast majority of train locomotives currently in use in Romania have been manufactured at the “Electroputere” railway locomotives factory in Craiova.

At the end of the 17th century and the beginning of the 18th century, Craiova’s architecture underwent a transformation with the creation of the Brâncovenesc style, a combination of Romanian traditional art, Byzantine and Venetian elements. You can still spot this style in many of the historical 18th-century buildings. The city also has many museums on history and art, a botanical garden and an impressive city park, and a large natural park.
