ESC in Rustavi (Georgië)
The activity mission is to promote the initiatives and non-formal education activities among young people and children from Rustavi city. The project will give the local youth and children opportunities to develop themselves in physical and intellectual fields, and actively participate in the local project development and implementation.
The main activities will be implemented in conjunction with two objectives: development of civil society and international development cooperation. For civil society development, the receiving organization will organize workshops and seminars in the frames of national and international issues. Also, a number of camps, seminars, weekend activities, non-formal education clubs will be organized, not only for organization members, but also for young people from Rustavi city and Kvemo Kartli region.
For International cooperation development, GYE will implement different international projects with the goal to get in touch with like-minded partners from all over Europe, to exchange experiences and knowledge. By doing this we create a permanent partnership and we give opportunities to local young people to become more open to the world, full of opportunities, as well removing cultural biases and stereotypes, making them more tolerated by people with different nationalities, which is important for people from the Caucasus, especially multinational Georgia.
ESC opportunities:
This organization could host volunteers for projects of 6 to 12 months starting from September 2023.
Alles over dit project
Field of long term activities:
– To help in running the GYE office. This task involves arranging practicalities, preparing leaflets about the activities, preparing monthly organizational newsletter, updating the GYE website and other little jobs depending on the need of the organization.
– To run conversation courses in English for local youth. The aim of the conversation clubs in English is to motivate the children and youth to learn the language and to not be afraid to speak foreign languages. The courses are led in cooperation between a local volunteer from GYE and an ESC volunteer. Volunteers do not need to be good at English – their role is to create an international environment and informal atmosphere – games, role plays, etc. If the volunteers are interested, they are welcome to organize conversational clubs in their mother tongue.
– European club – to foster young people’s sense of European citizenship, to raise volunteering awareness among Georgian youngsters with fewer opportunities and less-privileged backgrounds. Volunteers can tell or make presentations, culture days about their countries, European Union and European Citizenship, promote ESC, raise European awareness, etc. Volunteers will present the information in informal way as well as organize informal games and quizzes about a chosen topic and short games to fight prejudice against minorities or people anyhow different.
– Once in a week (2 hours per time) the volunteers will go to one Rustavi daily Centre-“Sapovnela”-, where he/she will accompany the teacher and help her/him out by organizing games for the children (with fewer opportunities), telling them about his/her country, promoting EVS and raising European awareness.
– Video club – to lead GYE Video club together with local youth. Basic skills in audiovisual field and interest in media are requested but not obligatory. The volunteer will get a chance to gain new skills of working with video equipment, video editing programs and local community.
– 2 hours a week – spreading information about ESC and the “Erasmus+” Programme. This will be done in forms of advertising campaigns about ESC (together with the other ESC volunteers), meetings with youngsters in local schools to speak about own activities and promotion of the “Erasmus+” Programme.
-“Art club”- volunteers will work with local youth, to develop basic handicraft skills: The program would be: 1. Make a lamp cover and lampion 2. Coloring on a scarf and t-shirts 3. Picture frames with little stones 4. Bijou 5. flower pots and stands.
– Weekly meetings on Mondays of the whole GYE team where we evaluate activities from previous week, discuss the plan for the coming week in detail, divide tasks and responsibilities.
– To assist or lead activities during the public events: Earth Day, International Day of people with disability, eco campaigns, Pop-Star event, etc.
– To assist GYE project coordinators in organizing different European projects under the Erasmus+ program (youth exchanges, trainings, etc.)
–Logistic and technical work support.
– During summer period we will have both indoor and outdoor activities. Volunteers will take part in different kinds of outdoor activities — youth ecological, thematic and international camps, hiking, and workshops. We expect them to be fully involved in every stage of these activities – planning, preparation, realization, evaluation.
Food: The volunteer will receive 90 euros as food allowance each month, directly from the hosting organization.
Accommodation: All the costs related to the accommodation will be supported by the hosting organization. Volunteers will share the flat with other volunteers situated in a housing estate – about 5-10 minutes walking distance from the town center. The flat is newly reconstructed and has a good condition for living. There will be 3 volunteers, all of them will have their own room. The bathroom, kitchen and living room will be shared. The volunteers will be given money to buy their own food. There is a kitchen in the volunteer flat where they can prepare meals. Shops and restaurants are close-by (a 2-5-minute walk).

GYE is based in Rustavi – the third biggest city in Georgia (approximately 116 000 residents)- located just 25 km from the capital city Tbilisi, 25 km from the Azerbaijan border, 72 km from Armenia. Rustavi was a major industrial centre during the Soviet period – the development of Rustavi was part of Stalin’s accelerated industrialization process and Rustavi is nowadays still rich with huge Soviet time heritage. But unfortunately youth life – and generally youth inclusion and development – has lack of opportunities. There are just 2-3 youth organisations in Rustavi which are focused on youth. Also economical and social situation in the city is not good and there is a big lack of non-formal education and educative programs of international standards. As a neighbor city of the capital, Rustavi has a big problem of migration, the city is getting empty as there is a lack of working spaces, youth is either going to work in Tbilisi, or trying to leave country and search new opportunities. Due to our past experience in EVS, volunteering is promoting inter-cultural learning values of EU citizenship and friendship between Georgian and European youngsters. There is a promotion campaign of ERASMUS+ and all of this positively effects on youth initiatives, makes them open minded and encourages them to be in different countries with different fields. Besides that, long term volunteering has approved itself as an immeasurable experience for youngsters, especially for the ones with fewer opportunities.
We believe that this is a unique life experience that will broaden horizons, provide personal, professional development and cultural understanding. Therefore, we would like to encourage the youth to participate in such a valuable experience.
Ja.
