Xeración is a non-profit organization established in 2013 with the aim to promote culture, arts, mobility and civic participation. Since then, they have developed projects to promote a new youth culture: more European, tolerant and inclusive. To do so, they also organize regular workshops, presentations, courses, and exchanges.

The organization is looking for active European volunteers to give them a hand organizing linguistic tandems, talks in high schools, cultural activities, concerts and all the international projects Xeración is developing. They can offer a full immersion in the Galician culture while the volunteers can improve their linguistic, cultural and project management skills through practice. This way, they also get equipped for entering into the labor market after the end of their project.

Two Additional Projects

– Media Assistant

Description: In this position, the volunteers will learn different techniques of video recording. They will be able to edit videos professionally with Adobe Premiere and After Effects. They will perform interviews, reports and develop a videoblog (see the Monthly News on Xeración’s Youtube Channel). They will discover the fundamentals of graphic design as well as different tools (Indesign, Canva) with which they will develop promotional materials to communicate about the various initiatives of the organization. The volunteers will also have access to some professional devices to make podcasts / audio interviews (the aim being to broadcast the inspiring stories of the people living around).

– Art assistant

Description: The volunteers will assist in the initiative developed by Xeración called Casa Creativa (casacreativa.org), a combination of young art gallery, participatory atelier and artistic residence. Thus they will have the opportunity to discover / train / share various artistic techniques (visual or scenic). Additionally, they will develop key skills related to public relations, content creation and event promotion.

Possible tasks

We offer to volunteers the possibility to choose one of the following taskboxes according to his/her motivation and skills:

1. Non-profit management:

Acquiring the knowledge and experience in order to be able to start and manage a non-profit organisation
Learning community management skills and keeping updated organization website, as well as our social profiles
Helping contacting foreign partners and negotiate agreements with them
Recruiting and preparing volunteers and participants for local and international activities
Organise events to dynamise our youth center in Ferrol

2. Non-formal education:

Helping to organise training courses, workshops and other local activities
Helping to organize and coordinate linguistic tandems – managing the public speaking workshops in English (Speak Factor)
Promoting the values of the association (cooperation and solidarity, social justice, human dignity, sustainable development, democracy, tolerance) amongst the population in the region by creating campaigns, activities and other events

3. Promotion of Erasmus+ and other European programs:

Promoting EVS and other actions of the Erasmus+ program in order to encourage Spanish youth to take part in the program
Organizing and implementing interactive workshops to promote international mobility programmes in schools and University

4. Media creation:

Creating audio-visual material for the organisation, photographs, videos, time-lapse, stop-motions or any others
Organise, promote and facilitate the forum cinema events every week
Creation of a video blog with weekly updates sharing the experience of a foreigner living in Ferrol – support in the design, filming and edition of short videos related with the objectives of the organization (ecology, inclusion, mobility)

Volunteer Profile

Food and Accommodation

Participant will receive 150 euros per month as food allowance plus pocket money according to European Solidarity Corps regulations. Accommodation will be in one of our centrical flats 10 minutes away from the office/atelier. Rooms can be single or double shared with other volunteers. Apartment is equipped with all needed utilities for living (linen, washing machine, Internet connection).

Working hours

The coordinator will develop together with the participant a customized working plan with weekly monitoring meetings. The general working hours in the office are from 10-14.00, afternoon activities are happening in different schedules depending of the day and type of the workshop. Saturday and Sunday are non working days. Additionally, the volunteers will count with 2 free days per month.

Faq

Waar kom ik precies terecht?

Ferrol is a city of 100,000 inhabitants in Galicia, on the northwest coast of Spain. It is full of contrasts and the charm of its fishing village roots is still visible in its streets and traditions. The old town of Ferrol, the modernist district of La Magdalena, the defensive walls of La Cortina (18th century) and the castles of San Felipe and La Palma are just some of the local attractions. The city has been an important naval shipbuilding center for most of its history, being the capital of the Spanish Navy’s Maritime Department in the North. It is also the starting point of the English Way (pilgrimage route) to Santiago de Compostela.

Wat zijn de addertjes onder het gras?

Dit project (onderdeel van de European Solidarity Corps, ESC) wordt geheel gefinancierd vanuit het Erasmus+ programma van de Europese Unie. Dit programma is bedoeld om uitwisseling tussen Europese jongeren en hun culturen te stimuleren. Eastpackers is één van de Nederlandse organisaties die bemiddelt tussen Nederlandse jongeren en buitenlandse organisaties die vrijwilligers ontvangen. Onze werkzaamheden worden ook door de EU gefinancierd. Deelnemers betalen hier niets voor.
Er zijn wel een aantal voorwaarden verbonden aan deelname aan dit project. Je moet tussen de 18 en 30 jaar oud zijn, minimaal 6 en liefst 9 maanden beschikbaar zijn (voor andere projecten is dit soms anders) en gemotiveerd zijn om full-time vrijwilligerswerk te doen.

Hoe kan ik beoordelen of dit project iets voor me is?

Het is kenmerkend voor ESC projecten dat het werk en de werkomgeving soms anders uitvallen dan van te voren gedacht. Een flexibele instelling is noodzakelijk om van ESC de leerervaring te maken die het kan zijn. Wanneer je het moeilijk hebt, heimwee ervaart of onvoldoende uitdaging hebt, helpen wij je om de situatie te verbeteren. Je bent en blijft te allen tijden vrijwilliger. Wij kunnen je dus niet dwingen om tegen je zin te blijven. Bedenk wel dat je slechts één keer in je leven ESC kunt doen. Als je jouw project voortijdig beëindigt, kun je geen ander project gaan doen.

Wat krijg ik allemaal vergoed?

Alle reis,- en verblijfkosten (plus je eventuele visa) zijn inbegrepen. Daarnaast krijg je eten en drinken of een vergoeding om dit zelf te kopen. Daarnaast krijg je nog zakgeld die door Eastpackers maandelijks wordt overgemaakt. Verder krijg je een aanvullende zorgverzekering een online taal cursus voor EU landen en taallessen voor landen buiten de EU. Bovendien krijg je een trainingen aangeboden waar je leert het meeste uit je ESC te halen. Deze zijn in Nederland en in het land waar jouw gastorganisatie gevestigd is.

Hoe is de huisvesting geregeld?

Elke gastorganisatie regelt huisvesting op een andere manier. De meest gangbare vorm van huisvesting is dat meerdere ESC-vrijwilligers samen in een appartement worden gehuisvest. Vrijwilligers delen de keuken en badkamer en hebben elk een eigen slaapkamer. Er zijn echter ook landen en projecten waarbij twee vrijwilligers een kamer delen. Als je dit niet wilt, is het belangrijk om van te voren met de gastorganisatie goed door te spreken hoe de huisvesting is geregeld.
