Youth empowerment in Cairo (Egypte)

Tasks will contribute to the themes of youth empowerment, inclusion, intercultural learning, environmental awareness, art, entrepreneurship and communication, and may include—but are not limited to— the following:

• Support Erasmus projects by assisting in the implementation and visibility of the Youth project
• Assist with workshops and youth exchanges focused on solidarity, active citizenship, and intercultural learning
• Engage in community-based initiatives related to education, digital transformation, and gender inclusion
• Help with the communication and visibility of the organisation and the project through social media, video, newsletters and blogs
• Participate in the design and facilitation of workshops for aspiring youth entrepreneurs
• Facilitate informal language exchange sessions with Egyptian youth and volunteers

* Actual tasks are tailored to each volunteer’s interests and adapted to project developments.

• Strong English; bonus for Arabic or French or other languages.
• Passion for one or more: media, arts, research, social entrepreneurship, community engagement.
• Comfortable with teamwork, deadlines, and initiative.
• ESC age & residency criteria apply.

The volunteer will be accommodated in a shared, recently remodelled appartment close to the workplace in Heliopolis area. The neighbourhood has a local character, is safe and all conveniences are nearby. Rooms can be shared or single depending on the duration and timing of the project.

The volunteer will commute on foot, as it is a short daily walk.

Basic Arabic classes; if you already speak some Arabic we look for tailored alternatives at your level.

The volunteer will work for 30–35 h/week from Sunday to Thursday.

Cairo is a metropolitan like no other – here, nothing is surprising. The first thing you’ll notice in this rapidly growing megacity is the ‘chaos’, which over time you may start to understand as ‘liveliness’. Within this envigorating rush of sounds, smells and sights you will be welcomed by a culture full of hospitality and playful humour.

With its contrasts of old and new, traditional and modern, local and international, poor and rich you will truly find everything. In the same day you can dive into ancient history at the pyramids and the Grand Egyptian Museum, have food or shisha in the middle of a souk (market) and finish at a bar, night club or rooftop party. You will find restaurants from all over the world and shops in all price categories.

From Cairo, you can easily travel by bus to other beautiful destinations such as the oasis of Siwa and Fayoum, the city of Alexandria or, when you have more time, the temples of Luxor, the islands of Aswan or snorkling in the coral reefs of the Red Sea.
