Support the local community in Askvoll, Norway

As a volunteer you will have several work places per week.

Usually you will work 2 days at the kindergarten (1-3 years, 3-5 years and pre-school outdoors group) and 2 days at the school (local school of Askvoll and Montessori school in Holmedal).

In addition to your work at the kindergarten en school, you will support and organise activities at the junior/youth club, the second-hand shop, and the elderly house.

Besides your regular activities, you might also be asked to help out at occasional art and cultural events in the local community. Like World’s mental health day, World’s activity day, FN-day, Christmas parties in the community. Most of activities are in cooperation with local organisations and
volunteers.

Moreover, you will also have the chance to organise your own project, which is a great chance to develop organizational skills with practical support from the host organisation.

Askvoll municipality provides proper accommodation in the
center of Askvoll with a nice view. Each volunteer will have
a single bedroom with shared cooking, washing, laundry
and social facilities. The volunteers will have access to
a bicycle. Askvoll Frivilligsentral pays for all accommodation
costs and transport tickets for work purposes. The apartment is fully equipped with bed linens, towels, kitchen tools and extra.

It might be a big advantage to hold driving license as the organization provide volunteers with a car for leisure purposes as well. Sometimes they also need someone to help with food delivery to elderly, which is a great chance to see more of the beautiful Norwegian landscapes and even visit other volunteers in neighbor communities in their free time.

The volunteers join a language class on a weekly basis, where they learn the Norwegian language. In addition, through their working activities the volunteers will quickly pick up on the Norwegian language.

The volunteer works form Monday to Friday for max. 35h. The volunteer has free weekends and 2 days off per month. Which gives 24 days of holiday if mobility duration lasts 12 months. If a volunteer works on a weekend, then free day during the week will be granted.

Askvoll is a small village, located on the fjord on the west coast of Norway. Population of around 2930 thousand and just about 1000 are living in the center. Askvoll has a long-driving distance between its villages and there are almost 100 islands in the municipality.

All the volunteers in Askvoll are getting free access to volleyball, football, and handball groups. As well as swimming pool, choir, shooting club, library access, culture school with instruments.
