Jeugd/jongerenwerk in Siwa (Egypte)

Discover the beautiful Siwa oasis in Egypt! Organize arts and crafts activities for children, help in the restaurant, take care of the vegetable garden and tutor Syrian (refugee) children in their homes. The organisation also has opportunities in the city of Alexandria. Watch this video for an impression of volunteers’ experiences in Siwa!

Torraha is a women-led foundation founded in 2013. It focuses on empower women socially and economically, while promoting opportunities for youth and children. They do so through creative workshops, but also by employing local youth to work next to international volunteers. The impact of this cultural exchange is big, especially in Siwa. Working alongside international volunteers expands the ‘bubble’ of these Siwi youth when it comes to values such as gender equality (working side-by-side with women is unique in the area) but also eco-awareness (concepts such as separating trash are often new to them) and general creativity and open-mindedness.

Siwa is a small village in the oasis of the western desert of Egypt. The region is known among tourists for its beautiful scenery full of olive and date trees, ruins of temples and tombes as well as its local crafts. Although there are some hotels, Siwa has kept its traditional amazight character, so you will really be face-to-face with its rich culture and heritage.

Because Siwa is so secluded the organisation encourages to come as a duo. For this location we make exceptions to send volunteers for shorter projects of two months.
