Mijn verhaal:
I volunteered as a project, research, and advocacy assistant, as well as helping out during the implementation of events (cultural festival, sports, etc.) and in the preparation and distribution of humanitarian aid to families in need in Nicosia. Volunteering definitely helped me clarify my immediate and long-term career goals, and direct my educational and professional choices for the coming period.
One of my best memories is taking part in the Diversity Day Festival, a large-scale festival in the middle of Nicosia organized by GFC where we welcomed a broad range of artists of migratory backgrounds to perform and host workshops. It was a nice opportunity not only to witness great work, but to also have an opportunity to see the city come together and celebrate.
I look back on my time as an ESC volunteer with extreme fondness. It was a very weird year in the most positive way possible, it put me in a direction which I did not expect but that I have fallen in love with.
Take as many chances as you can get, a year goes by very fast.
